As we begin to
celebrate our 100 years (1909-2009) of Catholic education in the
Brainerd Lakes area, we are remodeling with an eye to the future.
During the summer of
2008, our beautiful Catholic school has been greatly altered. You
might notice that the single-story middle section connecting the
2-story gym to the 2-story classroom building is gone. A temporary
connection will be constructed this Fall and 2-story section will be
constructed next year. The enormous boilers were removed and all new
heating and air conditioning is installed with air exchange.
An elevator shaft is
in place and will allow for greater accessibility.
The student
bathrooms are completely updated with new sinks, toilets, plumbing
and partitions. Ceilings, lights and floors are replaced in every
classroom and each has new paint. The brick partitions in each
classroom are gone and coat hooks will be on the walls instead.
Each classroom now has a phone, more outlets, and is wired for
internet access.
The basement under
the gym was opened up to make 3 of our classrooms (teacher’s lounge,
art and music/Spanish) into 2 larger classrooms and we have a new
custom art room. New tile will adorn all rooms in the basement.
The library will
become a classroom this year while we continue to work towards
constructing a modern media center in our new 2-story section.
For the 2008-2009
school year, we have 206 K - 8th grade students and approximately 55
preschool students enrolled to-date. That represents a 42% increase
for K-8th grade enrollment over 2007-2008.
We are truly
blessed.
In 2006, initial improvements were completed including
demolishing older buildings and building a wonderful kid-friendly
playground, blacktop areas, grassy play areas and sports fields.
